Pravin, Dell sticking to Intel is mildly surprising to me too. But you make it sound like AMD is the only one coming out with strong products in the near future. Perhaps Dell wants first dibs on Intel's latest-n-greatest this year, including Cascades (coming a lot sooner than Mustang), Merced/Itanium, Timna, Willamette, and Foster.

For example, in the server arena, Dell needs Intel just as much as Intel needs Dell. Intel's SHV (Standard High Volume) approach toward making Intel-based servers prolific fits perfectly with Dell's BTO model of business. And Dell would love to make (or continue making?) inroads into a market dominated by Compaq. Maybe that's one reason why Dell wants to keep playing nice-nice with Intel.

Pravin, Hmm, Maybe we can get a vidcam into that nose rubbing ceremony.
Well, as far as I can see they cannot force Dell to use Intel only. All they can do is pull some ad $ on mixed ads.
As far as I know there are restrictions on tied selling.
The scenarion you describe has validity as I feel that Dell has to self protect just in case.
