Kash,

What language is it? Can you lighten it a little bit in English?

Regards,

Kash, Here's the translated version

Basically Athlon 850 is about to come out. The 850's performance is like a PIII's at the same speed. KX133 should improve performance some. Intel's reaction to the 850 is also about to come out.

At Anand's site, he mentions he will review a faster Athlon and two faster PIIIs soon. So PIII 850/866 are going to be "released" soon - probably a week after Kapkan's expected shipment date for a PIII 800 that was ordered the DAY that processor came out - about a MONTH ago!

Athlon 850:

Athlon 850 tested in preview the drafting of Expert PC could put of exclusiveness the hand on the very first specimen in Athlon processor available. It should be launched very soon, the date and the price was not announced yet. Contacted, its manufacturer AMD did not want to comment on a product which was not officially presented yet.

Modest progress compared to Athlon 800

From a technical point of view, this processor is certainly manufactured in technology 0,18 micron, but still does not exploit technology coppers. The latter would be inaugurated at the time of launching, at an always unspecified date, processor with 1 000 MHz.

Our first tests show certainly a new jump ahead, but not very significant compared with the preceding version of the processor, whose frequency is 800 MHz. With our test processor? CPUMark 99? is Athlon 850 thus reached 69, a result for the moment comparable with those obtained on Athlon 800? and Pentium III at the same frequency. Sign that marketing (advertisement on the frequency) takes here the step on the technical interest. On the other hand, even under Windows 98, the index Business Winstone 99 (which measures the capacities of the processor in situation of work) precedes of a short head that obtained by Pentium III (29,6 against 29,4).

The principal reason of these mitigated and preliminary results results on the one hand bus (always given rhythm with 100 MHz) and on the other hand of the frequency of the memory hides of second level. Still external compared to the processor, the latter is indeed given rhythm with a fifth of the frequency of the processor? against 100 % for that of Pentium III, which the just one on the same piece of silicon (technology one-die).

A bus with 133 MHz will relevera the results

However, it is not necessary therefore forgetting that Athlon should profit very soon from a bus with 133 MHz (envisaged after Cebit in March) thanks to chipset KX Pro 133 of the company Via Other improvement awaited in the next months: the integration of the memory hides within the processor, which should allow Athlon unequalled performances and without relationship with those obtained today.

INTEL prepares the response

On would its side, INTEL be already on the point of counter-attacking, while launching in a few weeks of the versions of its processor Pentium III, given rhythm this blow with 866 and 933 MHz? that is to say a slightly higher frequency, in order to eclipse the advertisement of AMD.

It is seen, the two large founders continue with affuter their successive responses. What does not arrange any manufacturer (of which the ranges never vals‚ also quickly). Nor even user, which beyond the advertisements wonders well which processor it will be able to physically find week well on the other, and at which price.
