General Motors Raises $1.8 Million At Internet Auction

Dow Jones Online News, Thursday, January 27, 2000 at 17:34

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- General Motors Corp., pushing ahead with its online partership with Commerce One Inc., said it raised $1.8 million at Thursday's business-to-business auction through its new Internet site.

The Detroit-based company (GM) said it sold seven stamping presses as part of its global asset recovery program through its online system, called GM TradeXchange.

GM set up the system with Walnut Creek, Calif.-based technology concern Commerce One (CMRC) in November as a way to trade with suppliers and conducted about $1 million in business on it last year. The company expects to do $50 billion in business through the system by the end of this year.
