yaacov..."the real story"

america is a country of great wealth and natural resources. for all intent and purpose it could close its borders off and live as it once did, perhaps with a lower standard of living, as an isolationist nation. this attitude is inbred in the citizenry. immigrants to the usa have a much different point of reference.

japan has a population half, the usa, much smaller land mass, and little or no natural resources. it learned to survive in a global society by exporting its products. unlike the usa, japan fully understands that they can't sell a domestic 100volt 60herz appliance to a euro country with 220volt 50herz mains. so they tailor a product to the country they target as a market. example: jpns cars are right hand drive, they build left hand drive for export...usa until recently refused to build a right hand drive vehicle for japanes home market....

usa has lagged penetration to foreign market with other then food stuffs, as the usa in fact produces very few exportable consumer goods...easier for the usa company to jv or set up local/offshore production.

dell model an excellent sales model, but it is obvious by their less then stellar penetration in the euro markets, that it may not be fully in tune with the euro consumer...
