"Counterfeit" because it's explicitly tied in their marketing babble to Microsoft Windows, which won't exploit a 32-way straight-up cached crossbar machine any time soon.

ROFLMAO!! I see your point although I see it more as one of those western store fronts where the one room single story interior has a 3 story facade... I think NT would have a hard time using more than 8 processors, although of course there is currently no way to tell...

What is your guess as to when that's going to happen, dog?
Mine is October 2001.

I think you are an incurable optimist... I'll go with mid year 2002 on that one.

Are we going to claim that an IA-64 chip running in any of its sundry 32-bit modes is some kind of world beater?
My guess is that the IA64 machines will be slower running 32 bit code than the contemporary IA32 machines, even if IA64 can match clock rates...

But remember my basic premise which is that the notion of architectural dominance and "securing the high ground" is a PR battle not a technical battle, and in that race the Unisys machine and its ilk may serve their purpose. BTW I did buy another 30 contracts of SUNW LEAPs so I guess I'm not too concerned about IA64 displacing SUNW any time soon.

Also posted (with attribution) one of your more amusing posts on the CPQ thread, hope you don't mind. The sheer quality of the writing made it worth sharing...
