In my opinion, yes it does. Very much so. If AMD released a 1GHz with an off die cache with some non-optimum divider, it might look bad relative to the benchmarks.

So maybe it's a race for Intel to get to 1GHz with current core and AMD to implement an on-die cache that still enables high MHz??? Could be. Good point, IMO.
