I happen to agree with you that it doesn't take much to slow the economy down. But you must remember, Al only has a couple of months to play with this year. The Fed will be VERY reluctant to play with rates once we get into deep spring and summer because of the coming election. They don't want to be perceived as having any effect on the election. That means I also disagree with Country Bob's assertion that the Fed will lower rates later in the year. Barring some serious event, I believe the Fed will monkey with rates early and then dis-engage until mid-November...

* OT * briand, I am sorry... I wrote what I meant incorrectly... what I meant, it's almost a given that Mr. Greenspan will raise interest rate by 50 bp.... whether that will happen in Feb or 25 bp now followed by another in March...
