Lone Star, I suspect that there will be cable interface boxes that will receive the HDTV format but will still be able to drive current style TV's using the standard signals. Not everyone will be willing to shell out the $3K-$5K price that the sets are now costing. Technology moves so fast that anyone who invests in an HDTV today will be wasting their money. Once HDTV sets drop to < $700 then the general consumer will be willing to buy into the technology. Right now there just aren't enough HDTV programs to warrant the purchase price. Consumers don't need it and aren't willing to pay for it with the limited offerings available now. 5 or 6 years from now is an eternity, there will be 2-3 generations of new chips and features available at much cheaper prices then compared with now, and the infrastructure for HDTV is still in its' infancy and could be obsoleted by a "better" alternative technology. Remember Betamax, I do, I bought one that won't happen again. Just my opinion, BB
