John, to be specific, my company is me. Cost of doing business is constant except for any continuing investment in info technology.

I eliminated extraneous costs years ago when I switched from being a distributor to being a broker. I have maintained and actually increased margins over the years mostly in years with much greater inflation than the last several. In my business, it's actually easier to maintain margins in times of continued greater inflation because customers become inured of price increases.

To be more general, for a company to overcome 4-5% cost increases in labor and material costs and maintain margins year after year requires a 4-5% growth in company productivity. I believe info technology is accomplishing that.
