For what its worth, the February 7th issue of Fortune proffers the following numbers:

PALM COMS*
Proj. 2000
revenues (mil) $813 $4,989

Net margin 9.8% 7.7%

Annual revenue
growth 36.6% 2.9%

Target share
price $35 $30

* 3Com without Palm

So each share of 3com post IPO would be worth $82 ( 1.5 shares of PALM @ $35 = $52 + 1 share of COMS @ $30 = $82)

The key to your investment is the market cap that the street places on PALM. Nothing else really matters.

Good post. And if COMS somehow finds some life on its own (I recall EB mentioning something about an "internet appliance" in the wings...?) that would be "found money." Not that I am banking on that by any stretch, but your simple point that it all depends on the valuation the mkt wants to place on PALM is all that matters is right on target. JMO

- YUP!!! Also the market cap which the street places on COMS sans PALM....

- Further, any increase in the price of PAL post IPO will not be necessarily factored into COMS stock price on an immediate basis of 1.3-1.5 (whatever the exact number!!!) since the amount will be discounted by a factor of 10% - 15% and decreased to par as IPO distribution date approaches!
IMO!
