I'm sure the book is a fascinating history. I know the Federal Reserve is a consortium of 11 private banks, only five of which are US owned. I used to get slightly agitated over stuff like that.

My read now is we have a stable system with widely available credit. This credit has helped people who were born poor, but if they were willing to work and put in the time to get a business up and running they succeeded with the help of the cash infusion that was available to them. These opportunities wouldn't be available if we listened to the nostalgics who want us to return to the days when Congress minted money.
