Taylor, I usually just respond when someone asks me a question. I follow this stock because I follow in general the OLAP sector. I have admitted on many occasions that not buying back in August was a mistake. Fortunately I did buy some others in this sector, including among others INFA, BRYO, SGNT, ARDT, and COGN. None have done as well as MSTR, but that's life. Three stocks that I regret not buying are BOBJ, MSTR, and HYSL.

On the other hand sometimes the market values a stock so richly that it is difficult to explain. At the current time the two that come to mind are MSTR and EPNY. Yes today the market is saying that MSTR is worth $12 billion. Interestingly enough last August it was saying that MSTR was worth only 1/10 that much. Yes, MSTR has grown 50% in the intervening period, but that only explains a shift in valuation of 50%. Remember MSTR didn't just start growing rapidly in the last 6 months - it has been doing it for quite awhile. Therefore the rest of the increase is obviously attributable to a sentiment change on the part of the market. Just remember that sentiment changes can work both ways. I'm not saying that the stock is going back to $17 post split, but be aware that a disappointing quarter somewhere along the way will have severe repercussions.

Good luck, and for the time being I will continue to just watch, just as I just watched EPNY fall from $250 to $150 without shorting it.

Carl

Hi Taylor. I was reviewing some old posts and came across this one. As you pointed out on January 29th, I thought this stock was overvalued on August 10th, 1999 when it was at $35. The stock did go to a much higher level in the interim, during which time as you pointed out, someone was wrong, me or the market. At the current time it appears that it was the market. Of course if we continue this discussion on an every 6 month basis the situation could look different next time around. I hope for your sake that you got out at the top. Sadly for me, while I did enter a short order a couple times at $250 it never executed.
