Hi GST:

AMD currently has a product mix second to none...It has the world's superior microprocessor in the Athlon which is destined for 12.5 million units shipped in Y2000 comparing very favourably with the 1 million shipped in Y99 according to Salomon Smith Barney and its flash memory product is now sold out for Q1.

Q4 earnings commentary suggested that the Athlons shipped in Q4 accounted for over half of the sequential growth in revenues by over $300 million...Imagine what incremental revenues (and profits) are likely to derive from an increment of 11.5 million Athlons in Y2000...Yes AMD is way undervalued at $35!

GST,

Re <I like AMD's prospects with both flash and processors and will buy into any opportunity.>

I am glad that you like AMD and I too am very excited about their prospects in the near future but please invest in AMD only with great care. AMD has a lot going for it right now and everything seems to be going great but AMD isn't just any old stock it has quite a rocky past and that is one of the big reasons that they can release earnings that blow away expectations by over 40 times the consensus estimate and yet plummet 5-10 points (depending on which closing prices you use) in the next 2-3 days. That has got to be a dead giveaway that there is a lot more to AMD than meets the eye.

I am not saying AMD isn't attractive. I am long 7000 shares and 50% of that is on margin so I am balls deep. Even Paul Engle, I don't know how long you have been reading here but Paul assiduously HATES AMD, and even Paul Engle is long AMD and I don't think that it is because, as he claims, that he thinks that the AMDDroids will hype it and make it go up even though it's a dog, I think even he knows that AMD has a chance, however remote, not to kill Intel, but definitely to become profitable and competitive, and he is hedging his bets.

But you have to weigh such risky investments carefully. I can think of dozens of things that could hurt AMD immeasurably and this just might be their last chance with the Athlon. AMD's survived for a long time and they may be around for a lot longer but in a very real sense the Athlon is AMD's hail mary pass. It looks like a good pass and they might pull it off but please know what you are getting into before you put any money down. Look at a chart, AMD's past is of course in the past, they are no longer just Intels second source, they are no longer embroiled in grinding lawsuits, things are a little different but you should be aware of that past. so look at a chart as far back as your data can go.

AND READ THIS BOOK: --
Inside Intel : Andy Grove and the Rise of the World's Most Powerful Chip Company
by Tim Jackson
This book rocks! I couldn't put it down and it's non-fiction. It is not about Intel and AMDs current situation but rather about their past all the way back to the beginning but I am so glad I read it and I plan to read it again. Please read it.

In any event good luck with your investments, sorry that this is so long :)
