I recently finished reading "On Human Nature" by E. O. Wilson. The author chose the following conversation for the end of the book:

Chorus: Did you perhaps go further than you have told us?
Prometheus: I caused mortals to cease foreseeing doom.
Chorus: What cure did you provide them with against that sickness?
Prometheus: I placed in them blind hopes.

I found it fitting to describe the stock mania and I concluded that what I lacked in this mania was blind hope. History tells us, however, unrealistic hopes are often shattered. We shall see.

Note: My apologies to the author for taking the conversation out of context, because he meant it to be inspiring.
