Binx,

A source close to the Katt leaked out a dictate from Sony's top marketing man. Apparently he ordered a halt to all promotional materials with "stick of gum" references to the memory stick.

The articles on branding that I am reading suggest that Sony's naming of their product may backfire on them. Practically everything written about Memory Stick includes the chewing gum reference. Now their product is associated with a 5½ piece of gum that you chew on and then spit out.

I always hated the name because it rhymed with "schtick" and conjured the notion of a stick or twig, something thin and brittle that you can easily break in two.
