Wireless Home Network Using Peer to Peer Ricochet Modems

What type of network can I set up with two Metricom wireless Ricochet modems?

The modems will talk directly to each other if they are less than 1000 feet apart.

Here is the email I received from Metricom

Peer-to-Peer Access

Two Ricochet modems can establish connections with each other for peer-to-peer communication. Peer-to-peer communication does not always require Name Server validation. The Ricochet modems can acquire each other directly if within about a quarter-mile RF range of each other. Peer-to-peer connections also may use RF-to-Metricom IP network paths, but only if the modems are subscribed with the Name Server and authorized to use the Metricom network.

Please see our Modem Reference guide at metricom.com

My read is the two modems will talk to each other without a subscription to the Metricom service. With the service one gains the IP network paths.

What is the difference WRT peer to peer networking? If I want to share files will this peer to peer network work? Will I see the other computer on the network the same way I do with a peer to peer network via Ethernet? Would I be able to see the other machine's harddrive? or would I have to use something like hyperterminal?

Would I be able to use PC Anywhere to operate the second computer?

My primary interest is to use the modems for wireless Internet access. I am wondering if I can also have some type of home network as well.

For example I would need some way to transfer data from the laptop to the home machine. I could relay to the storage space on a hosting service. I would rather go directly from machine to machine with a more capable network. I would also like to avoid running network wires around the house.
