Dan - <What do you think of Microchip Fabrication by Peter Van Zant (McGraw-Hill - third edition) for someone who is curious about the process? It has certainly been approachable, but I don't know how accurate or current it is.>

I am familiar with the title, but have personally not read the book. I will [speed] read it within the next couple of days, and provide a critique.

Taking a quick look at microexpress's pages that include price and quantity available, it sure is clear that AMD is pushing people to 650MHZ. The Athlon 550 is $231 and the 650 is $311. For $80, most should go with the 650. The PIII 550 is $308, to move to the PIII 650 costs $200 more.
