yep, Japan sits in a liquidity trap accompanied by vast public debt and the U.S. have what Japan had at the height of their bubble: a balanced budget coupled with a veritable explosion in private sector indebtedness. that's why i'm always having a good laugh at Bubba's budget surplus predictions for the next decade...they may well turn out to be a pipe dream.
the whole world is awash in debt....our venerable institutions the Fed and the IMF have papered over the problems by allowing even more debt to pile up, and the CB's globally have followed their lead. wherever one looks, money supply and debt have been exploding.
that's actually the most important feature of the 'new era'...
