Lizzie...thanks for that very important distinction...I wasn't really aware of that, but what you say makes a lot of sense. I've been torn about Vert because of it's relative "first mover advantage" but have read many articles indicating their model is inferior to a cmrc or arba...not that I understand all the technical jargon...so I appreciate your explaining that to all of us on this thread...RE: non-inventory, any ideas of companies that are on their way? Also, why the sudden desecration of b2b today...I miss something? Thanks, PoetTrader

Hi Lizzie, whether you hold inventory or not is really not the central issue, in my opinon. Amazon didn't have to hold inventory, they made the choice to do so to improve customer satisfaction. The key issue for Amazon is to drive and keep traffic/buying on their site. They are building an empire and once done, Amazon can make the conscious decision to get out of distribution just as they made the choice to do so in the first place (spin-out?). 2000's return on invested capital will not matter in 2002. The important thing is that Amazon is continuing to dominate.
