Until Tom Shrake was able to get the two parties together, the joint property owners had been in a legal battle over ownership of the property for well over a year.

It was Mr. Shrakes negotiation skills that brought the two parties together. Barrick probably never had the opportunity to "do the deal". From what I have seen/heard of Barrick, they are quite lacking in this department.
