Be careful about the fallacy that the Fed won't act later in the year because of the elections. If the Fed feels the need to act they will regardless of the proximity of the elections. In 1984 rates rose almost 200BP in the first 6 months of the year. In 1988, rates were also increasing as the embarked on a series of tightening moves.
