Derek,

I am stunned by your depth of knowledge about SDMC.

You stated that one demonstration of SanDisk's manufacturing finesse is the integration of various technologies into a single package. This creates...

2. Less value for controller manufacturer such as Lexar (SD integrates Flash memory and controller into one silicon chip).

We had discussed earlier about integration of various component parts onto a single silicon chip. I believe it was Steve Walstra who educated us on several points. For example, it was said that it is not always possible or desirable to combine logic functions and memory functions on a single chip. I have always been intrigued by the "system-on-a -chip" concept and it would be fantastic if SanDisk had achieved complete integration of the controller on the same piece of silicon as you stated.

Interesting, thanks. The only question is will the price of SD be cheap enough, at some point, for consumers to want to buy "secure" flash memory. For example, if I could buy a card fpor $10 which could hold 10 hours of music, I would be willing to do so and then just buy "downloadable" MP3-like music for $3-5 a record. That would deter me from cheating and trying to go pure MP3 knockoff.

What kind of price points are we looking at?

Best,
Prophet
