abbigail: What you say is correct. SUNW RHAT et al. will sell you something that is loaded everywhere but up front. Nothing is for free and everything has a cost and the company that can deliver the solution at the lowest cost will be the winner. The trouble with the public mass transport analogy is that "public transport" only works with government subsidies. I am sure that unless you have very Unix savvy system integrators on board the cost of the "open" system is going to be more than that of the W2K model. JFD

Flawed analogy. The comparison is not between public and private transportation. It's between driving your own 10 year old car and being driven around by a chauffeur in a new lease car at lower total cost.
