As batteries have a much higher watt/$ energy storage ratio than capacitors designers naturally use bigger batteries to extend the run time.

Hey Crew I am surprise somebody hasn't caught my dumb mistake. That should be watt-second/$. The units for power is watts and the units for energy is watt-second.

Variable capacitance and UPS question ...

In another post, it was pointed out to me that theory and practice follow separate paths with this strategy. The increase in efficiency gained by this idea would be more than offset by the extra cost of implementing it. It would be far cheaper to use a larger battery to overcome any losses of efficiency introduced by an inductive load. Using capacitors to align the voltage and current drawn from a UPS to power a personal computer is simply an impractical idea.

In the future, I'll stick to working on my perpetual motion machine.
