Good thing you weren't in my house to hear my rant against that ad. So, I wonder what this means. Is it gender, SES, age or something else that makes some people like one ad and not another.I happen to love E*Trade for my brokerage acct, and have held the stock long enough that I can't complain about that either, but I know that I would never sign up with E*Trade now based on their recent ads.I'm particularly offended by one I saw in the New York Times declaring that reading Ulysses is difficult as is remembering your anniversary. I think the target audience for those statements is not to be found in the Times, but People magazine.

But the worst one is the one I saw at the shareholder's meeting with a Little League coach that ignores his team as he trades on his laptop. The team loses and one little boy says he's going to take up ballet. There's enough that's offensive in that ad to alienate many a family. Why does E*Trade think it has to sell its services by using negative
images? That kind of advertising has never been particularly good. There are so many positive stories about E*trade that I think they need to emphasize that. How about a campaign that asks for how online trading with E*Trade has changed peoples lives for the better? My son is going to be selling some of his stock soon to buy an iBook so he can have a computer for school. Without his gains, he would not be getting this computer. There's got to be a positive ad in that and I'm sure there are many others.

I'm glad some of you liked the ads, but it would have been nice if I had too because I'm sure I represent a certain percentage of the population with a certain amount of money that would not sign up with E*Trade because of these commercials.
