real estate: The REITS might be a good leading indicator, they say we peaked in 97. The scam in CA is bankruptcy, people can buy a house for any price, one for every family member, file for bankruptcy and they get to keep the houses. Legislators are trying to change the law to limit protection to houses worth less than $250,000 because the scam is so pervasive.
House prices only returned to 1991 prices last year. Adjusted for cost of borrowing, they are still less expensive than they were in 91 when mortgages were 10%.
