Just a little personal inside knowledge on the cattle trade.
This info is for ICGE's cattle net that is about to go public. I've seen write ups that don't think it will do much. But this weekend I was talking with a rancher. Asked him if he knew he could sell his cattle on the internet now? His eyes lit up and said: "No"? He said he was stuck with this little market near his ranch and if he couldn't sell there that he had to go to another market to the south and sell for less... He is very displeased at how much ranchers get for their cattle. He only got $1.81 per pound for his cattle.
When these ranchers find out about the internet market, I'm sure allot of them will be in there trying to get the best price they can. They have excellent cattle which are not fat. Most of that fat is put on by the packers who are making more money that way. The middlemen are making the lions share of the money in cattle now. And what will happen when buyers such as excellent restaurants and even stores figure out they can buy direct from ranchers, cattle that are not fat? This cattle exchange could easily do very well.
BTW...I live in Montana....I've seen cattle all over the country...I've never seen cattle like here...Herds out on the range that look like they should be in a livestock show.
