Probably has something to do with Soft and Intel being components. Two high price stocks jumping around a lot today.

samir, often when there's a threat of a market decline thew Dow is used for manipulation imo. it's easy e.g. to prop up a relatively thinly traded high priced stock like JPM that due to it's high price has more weight in the price-weighted Dow. thus the illusion that things are not as bad as they seem is created, which often leads to short covering by the anyway demoralized troupe of bears, etc.
you get the picture. of course i can't prove one word of this, but i think manipulation is probably a lot more widespread than people believe. it's easy to do, and since the vested interests in a continuation of the bull market are many and well-padded it is only logical that it's being done all the time.
