I think that you have the general idea, Jan

I know that the spx is not an index from which signals are generated.

What I was trying to ascertain is the track record of the indicators over a reasonable span of time -- such as 10 years -- if one were to take every signal.

For example, using the spx as the measure for this purpose -- though you can use some other index, if you so choose -- what would be the specific entry and exit as the main indicator reverses direction. The appropriate % when the reversal occurs would also be interesting, I would think.

My interest in this is primarily from a stand-point of how effective a timing tool it would be in utilizing hedging techniques to protect a high beta portfolio of stocks.
