EMC, Microsoft to unveil Win2000 storage products

NEW YORK, Jan 31 (Reuters) - EMC Corp. <EMC.N>, a leader in high-capacity data storage equipment, and software giant Microsoft Corp. <MSFT.O> on Monday announced plans for a joint marketing alliance for Windows 2000 storage systems.

The companies said they plan a conference call on Tuesday to discuss a joint marketing effort tied to "Windows 2000 solutions."

EMC spokesman Rick Lacroix said the marketing alliance would build on existing efforts between the two companies, including the development of a massive 43-terabyte, or trillion byte, Windows-based storage system.

The system was demonstrated at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas in mid-November along with partners such as Unisys Corp. <UIS.N>.

"This is a joint marketing effort around Windows 2000," Lacroix said, referring to products tied to the next generation of Microsoft's operating system software, which is due to ship next month.

He said the announcement would involve EMC's recently acquired Data General unit. He declined to provide further details ahead of the announcement.
