shorting puts is opening a position to sell puts...selling puts is closing a position to sell puts... if one doesn't have a position to sell they have to short it.

am i right edamo?

lof...ot ot "more clear"

i may be wrong (so what else is new), but whenever anyone sells an option position, be it a put sale, or a call write it is considered by the sec as a "short" position. conversely a call or put buy is a "long" position. this is common terminology, that most with options experience should recognize. short position always brings a credit to the account, long position entails a debit.

sorry for being too technical......
