-- Micron Technology, Inc., Announces Industry Samples of 16 Megabit Enhanced Boot --
Block Flash Devices

Business/High Tech Editors

BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2000--Micron Technology,
Inc. (NYSE:MU) today announced the availability of 16Mb Boot Block
Flash samples (MT28F160A3FD and MT28F160C3FD). These devices offer
asynchronous random read access time of 90ns at 2.7V, and are suitable
for the low-power applications, such as; mobile phones, digital TVs,
digital set-top boxes, decoders, routers, switches, NICs, and modems.
Micron continues to enlarge its flash product with these two new
Boot Block Flash devices designed for low-power, high-performance
applications. Both 16Mb flash devices are part of Micron's wireless
family of flash products.
"We are excited to announce the addition of these two memory
devices dedicated to the wireless market and other low-power
applications to Micron's Flash family," said Mario Fazio, Micron
Technology's Wireless Flash Marketing Director. "These devices
together with the 16Mb Burst Boot Block Flash device will fulfill the
needs of the more demanding systems, while operating at low voltage
and low power."
One of these new devices (MT28F160C3FD) also features
soft-protection for blocks as read-only by configuring soft-protection
registers with dedicated command sequences. For security purposes, a
one-time programmable area (OTP) with 128 bits is provided. This
protection memory area is stored separately from the main memory
array, ensuring protection against cloning or other fraudulent uses of
the end equipment.
Both flash memory devices are assembled in 48-pin FBGA packaging
in 0.75mm pitch and are available in extended temperature range (-40;
+85). Manufactured on Micron's state-of-the-art .22-micron process
technology, 16Mb flash devices are currently available for sampling
and Micron anticipates production in the second quarter of calendar
2000.
Micron Technology, Inc., and its subsidiaries manufacture and
market DRAMs, very fast SRAMs, Flash, other semiconductor components,
memory modules, graphics accelerators, and personal computer systems.
Micron's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)
under the symbol MU. To learn more about Micron Technology, Inc.,
