Thread,

I just received an email from AMD concerning the K6-3+
speculation.

I had asked them about it since the speculation was increasing.

Here is the message I received back.
_______________________________________________________

There is no AMD K6-III+.

Forthcoming AMD processors include:

AMD-K6-2+ = AMD-K6-2 on 0.18 micron, on-die cache, Super7

AMD Athlon K75 = AMD Athlon w/on-die cache, on 0.18 micron, Slot A

Spitfire = K75 w/on-die L2 cache, Socket A

Thunderbird = K75 w/on-die L2 cache, Slot A/Socket A (Performance workstation)

Mustang = Athlon mobile, 0.18 micron copper process, on-die cache up to 2MB enhanced core, Slot A/Socket A

SledgeHammer = 8th generation:X86-64bit

Chuck,

re:"willamette"

So are you saying that first silicon does run at > 1Ghz???

I am not surprised BTW.

The key is will there be any real volumes in Q4 or will it be a cumine type of launch where they sell 1-2M willys and declare victory.

I am also intrigued by Timna.

RDRAM prices are still not coming down.

I wonder how this will perform with SDRAM.

Intels seems to me to be still paying the RDRAM price of shooting itslef in the head.

regards,

Kash

Chuckles - Re: "It will indeed be impressive if Willy see's first silicon shortly and reaches production by Q3 2000 at speeds > 1Ghz as alleged.The chances of that happening are pretty close to zero. >
Unless you are being cheeky, I say, be careful! Wilamette already made well past that albeit under "special conditions" I am told."

Mcmannis told us that Willamette won't tape out until 2001.

The AMD smart money is betting on Willy not appearing until early 2002 - at best.
