Dipy, my characterization was meant to portray the vehemence of the arguments being presented by posters on various web sites. We all understand that the root motivation is maximizing profit. As for fears about finding a new entry point, it's hard for me to believe that the recent weakness in the market is the last good investment opportunity that I will ever see. But even if it turns out to be so, when I totalled up my portfolio, I liked what I saw, and came to the conclusion that protecting what I have is more important than squeezing every last nickel out of the stock market. So even if going to 60% cash turns out to be the wrong thing to do, I can live with that a lot easier than I can live with the possibility of giving back substantial portions of my gains.
