the act of selling a put is never near term bearish......the stock however, when one sells a put should be in a near term down trend in order to obtain a favorable premium. don't confuse the position with the price action. a put is sold when the stock reaches an oversold condition, to do it any other way would be high risk. because a stock moves down, does not mean it is in a bearish trend, just the normal ebb and flow. i hope this clarifies put selling.
