Cirrus - <I know you can't answer that, but whatever the answer is will dictate how fast Intel will have a chance to regain whatever share AMD has taken away, IF Intel even has a chance to.>

These are valid questions, IMO. I will try to comment as best I can.

1) If Willy is launched in the time frames we are talking about, the capacity situation for P858 will be much improved vs. what it is now. I know I keep harping the capacity thing, and I meet a lot of resistance. This does not change the fact that Intel experienced more demand than it had forecast at the beginning of '99 for P858 Cumine at EOY '99. I'm not involved in capacity planning. Maybe Intel screwed this up. I don't know the answers for sure. Regardless, there should be significant recovery from this situation as we go forward, with the disclaimer that if global demand skyrockets at something beyond anyones's current expectations, we may continue to see tight supply conditions. This would be good news for AMD too. I have no way to predict this accurately, however.

2) My opinion is that the original technology delay for Cumine has had a cascading effect that is still being felt. For Willy, I would bet my lunch that this type of delay would be extremely unlikely. Could happen, I guess, but the situation is entirely different wrt various maturity issues that surrounded the Cumine delay, as well the time lines are totally different. Suffice it to say, the scenarios are ENTIRELY different.

I have attempted to give you stuff to ponder within the confines of what I think I can say. However, if you (not necessarily you, but anyone on the thread) are AMD-centric, please feel free to be skeptical. I have no problem with this. However, I'm probably not going to say much more than I've said above on the subject.
