Guy, GUY, Guy, you newbie you. The REAL longs here, we're talking about long trend lines. For example, since I know the number off the top of my head, from '86 to '96 the average rate of return was ~40% ( CAGR). There was a lot of volatility in those years ( I seem to recall '87 being fun ) but through thick and thin an average of 40% for someone who had the stock in the vault. Now 40% compounded over 10 years will buy you a lot of sushi. AMAT has grown, so 40% is not to be expected I believe since '96 its more like 30-something, but relatively risk free ( I said RELATIVELY!!).
Go ahead and try to time the market if you like, but its a mugs game.
