News Release - progress at Cariboo gold quartz project International Wayside Gold Mines Ltd IWA Shares issued 11,697,978 2000-01-31 close $0.19 Tuesday Feb 1 2000 Mr. J. Frank Callaghan reports Progress development of the company's 100-per-cent-optioned Cariboo gold quartz project was as follows: The property, near Wells in central British Columbia, has a measured and probable resource in excess of one million ounces of gold with drilling continuing, and adding to the resource. To develop the property, an application is being made to the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office for a 3,000-ton-per-day open pit and underground mining operation. Production anticipated to be in excess of 100,000 ounces of gold per year. W.L. Ruffo of Elixir Construction Consultants is heading up and co-ordinating the design and construction team, including: CSFM Engineering Ltd. -- engineering and procurement (conceptual design and conveyor); Knight Piesold Ltd. -- soils, environmental (tailings, reclamation); Unit Electrical Engineering Ltd. -- electrical and powerline (upgrade); and Monad Contractors Ltd. -- construction (estimating, scheduling, budget, construction). Cariboo Envirotech Ltd. of Likely, B.C., has been conducting fisheries and wildlife studies for several months, and will continue to work with the company to ensure the sound environmental development of the project. Jo Harris & Associates is co-ordinating the consultants in developing an application under the British Columbia environmental assessment process. The design and construction consultants have worked as a team in the development of several mines in British Columbia. They recently brought their combined experience to bear in the development of Imperial Metals Ltd.'s Mount Polley mine, also in the Cariboo. The Cariboo gold project consists of the Cariboo gold quartz mine, Island Mountain mine, and Mosquito Creek gold mine and covers 11,500 acres over a distance of eight miles by three miles.
