Qualcomm Welcomes the Year of the Dragon Chinese New Year is always an exciting time but the Year of the Dragon means something extra special. Chinese years are symbolised by 12 animals in the order of Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The dragon is the most potent and recognisable of the 12 symbols on the Chinese astrological calendar, conjuring up images of heroes (Irwin Jacobs) and mystical tales (QCOM $500). It has been worshipped as powerful and benevolent, being able to influence the workings of the universe as well as human fate. All metaphysical subjects such as feng shui and the four pillars of destiny are forecasting tools. Their function is to help us understand the natural forces acting on our fortune so that we can catch a glimpse of the future. We can then take precautions against misfortune and maximise any positive gains that will be brought by opportunities coming up. The principle for forecasting is quite simple. The belief in Chinese metaphysics is that everything follows the order of the five basic elements - namely the cycle of birth and the cycle of destruction. The Chinese calendar gives information about the cyclical change of elemental influence from year to year, month by month, day by day. Through examining the interaction between these elements, we can make logical deductions and estimate the likely scenario for each year. Year of the Dragon The coming year of the Dragon is a special one as it coincides with the Millennium celebration, based on the western Gregorian calendar, which differs from the Chinese Hsia calendar of the 12 animal cycle. So the year of the Dragon is not particularly significant in the Chinese system. However, in Flying Star feng shui, the time counting system is called "Three Period and Nine Ages" which shows a change of fortune comes in 20-year cycles. The current cycle is called "Age of Seven" which started in February 1984 and will end in February 2004. The world will then enter a new era with different feng shui influences and a shift of energy. In the Chinese calendar, this year is symbolised by the elements of Yang metal sitting on top of the earth Dragon. According to the cycle of birth, earth is the mother of metal. Hence the picture is earth supporting metal from below, a sign of harmony and peace. Therefore I predict that the Dragon is much more peaceful for international relations than the Rabbit - a good year to conclude peace treaties, develop trade, and achieve international settlement on old issues. from Feng Shui Master Raymond Lo *************** It is in everyone's interest to wait until the New Year for the deal to conclude. Happy Chinese New Year everybody. Long until 2004, eikos
