Are the tools different? I really don't know. I know something about one of them because of some scan work I did, but I don't know about the other. If they are on the same process, and roughly the same size, then they can share alot in the way of layout and timing analysis. The simulation environment must be very different but does that mean a different tool? Why use a different tool set? I am inclined to believe that after the astonishingly clean first silicon for Merced (relatively speaking), Intel's tools are if anything, better than ever.
