Maybe the "devil" represented some nasty aspects of your own character that you wanted to get rid of -- and that you found harder to get rid of than you expected!

Hey that's quite possible. I'll have to think about that.

The first dream is one I had a number of times (with a few variations) in my youth. I had it enough the memory stuck with me. I never could remember what I'd done that was wrong but I was hated and in danger of my life because of something.

The second dream and dreams similar to it in which I killed someone (usually someone attempting to break into my home at night) came during a later part of my life. The person I killed in the dream would either be a devil or someone whose face I couldn't see. It was never someone I knew. I did not feel guilt in these latter dreams but rather rage and a fear of being caught and held responsible for going "too far".
