Yes, several months after the IPO. Current estimates are somewhere between 1.2 - 1.5 shares of Palm per share of 3Com. (I'm relying on estimates that I've seen posted by folks on the 3COm thread.)

You won't lose any COMS stock in the conversion, but its value will understandably drop precipitously once the ex-distribution date occurs. But you will own a "corresponding" value in Palm at that moment.

Also, a portion of your cost basis in COMS will ultimately be reallocated to PALM, and you will be grandfather as a long-tome holder for capital gain purposes.
