I always thought it was a derivation of the term "crapper" from the first toilet, invented by John Crapper.

Dear Victor: When I was about 7 I asked my father what crap meant one afternoon when he had taken me and one of my younger brothers fishing in a row boat. He told me crap was a lebanon bologna factory.

I did not have to look it up because my father told me what it meant about 20 years ago.

Regards,

Lynn, Pinnoccio's sister (the age part)

A gentleman named John Crapper invented the flush toilet. For some time, it was politely referred to as the Crapper. Now the name has taken on more foul connotations. I have an elderly Uncle who still politely calls the toilet a crapper.

Dear Victor: I believe the first flushing toilet was invented by Thomas Crapper (poor guy). Anyhow, from that point on when one had to they took his name in vain. haha. JDN
