(q+a) Can TSIG adapt? What about Middle Management? By: andersm Reply To: 42687 by AlanC Monday, 31 Jan 2000 at 9:48 PM EST Post # of 42714 The business plan is bold and creative, a strong attribute for a company's long term success. However, two even stronger attributes are a company's ability to execute the plan and their ability to adapt if a shift in the environment creates a need for a new direction. All of this points to a need for visionary leadership and an informed and committed workforce. What can you share with me about the people who work for TSIG? I know about the three new guys, but what do you know about middle management and the folks in the trenches? eom MJA ------------------------------ MJA.............. Since I've owned tsig they've shifted to adapt to the environment numerous times. Outsourced Teleservices provider, etailor, web site developer, marketing company... all of these itmes...too many of these itmes. FINALLY they focused upon an less competitive niche with an unique approach counter to the ineffective strategies being experimented upon at considerable costs by others. With each shift especially at the end of '98 and first 6 months of '99 cam numerous middle and upper management people with impressive resumes who couldn't work together and had each a separate vision for which way they thought tsig should head. To the CEO's credit, he kept his vision coherent and allowed it to evolve. he has also now realized that others our more capable to do the day by day dirty work that visionaries seem not to want to meddle in and in which visionaries usually aren't very good. What makes me sanguine about the press release is that they hired a team. however, I'm not sure who is still on board and in what capacity. Some of the people I spoke with like Neil Kitchener and Richard Olsen seemed quite capable. Tim Heidleman had an impressive resume. Lewin, Haber, Guild, Hwang, Newton are gone with their salaries and inabilites to work together. Overhead has been minimized. Certainly the new m anagement TEAM is going to assess those that remain. Therefore, the long winded answer to your question is I for one don't know which middle management people are still even there. Personally I more concerned about results then resumes, especially since when tsig had the most chiefs last spring they had the least production. I am not so much interested in resumes either as I am interested in an aligned workforce who have a penchant for action and are ready to get in there and dig. Clearly the number of times this company has had to shift gears and regroup is a positive sign they are committed to not just survive, but to thrive. In this day and age, the ability to turn on a dime is paramount. TSIG has demonstrated they can do this effectively. Marlene
