This is how quickly it can happen from start to finish. Here is a bit of history of the Arequipa story ... difficult to track all of this down ... it shows the short period of time it took from start to finish. If I remember correctly the Feb release (pitting and tunnelling samples only) was what kicked off the huge gains in share price.

Before the Feb release AQP was priced at approximately $3.00. Drilling started some time thereafter and by August it was a done deal.

Yes there was metallurgy, I don't think there was a study and no proven reserves ... just an estimate and a great property. From reading through the releases I interpret AQP had just enough time to drill approximately 50 200m holes before Barrick's deadline.
