Rambi, on my computer that comes up as an upside-down N with a squiggle on top. This is a Cyrillic letter known as the "short i."

You mean to say that you actually use those two on purpose? And here I thought it was just some unintelligible mistake caused by writing in Word, for example, and pasting into these SI boxes.

I must search back and find some examples in order to ask you what exactly was the purpose in using those marks instead of, say, standard quotation marks? Is there a new style book out? Are Strunk & White finally able to rest quietly in their graves or are they still turning?
