The Fed Head and his merry band are setting up the market for a move on margin requirements in the future. I find it hard to believe, and Easy Al hasn't explained why hiking margin rates won't work. He knows that it will have an impact, but is afraid to unleash a surprise on the market, which is why I was incredulous that many supposed Fed experts had been talking about a possible 50bp move over the recent past. 25bp both on the discount rate and funds target is on tap, and I don't think any ensuing rally is likely to be sustained.
