Lynn... It is very possible that Capellas has an alliance, pact, or some kind of a strategy lined up with HWP that prevented him from commenting on HWP rumors last nite. DELL and IBM have an arrangement short of a takeover, so perhaps CPQ is talking to HWP, but not takeover. This is a more likely scenario to me. El

My reason for laughing off the rumor was not the price as much as the idea itself. I never considered CPQ the target on a take over before that rumor.

A little over 3 years ago I thought the same thing when it was rumored that Digital would be bought. As it turns out what was thought to be a stupid rumor was the first time around as it was never announced that the Digital board turned down an offer from Compaq. A year later when it came up again the first offer became known.

I was of the belief "No toymaker could ever purchase a serious enterprise computer maker." Boy was I shocked when it was announced.

Robin
