Cable Modem Performance

Just a note about cable modem performance. I have been a cable modem user for almost 1 year (@home) and find it to be extremely reliable, very fast (with no cable-related slowdowns), with excellent support.

I have had only two problems, and they were both related to mail server outages @home. Telephone support is excellent and responsive.

Now, I will admit that my neighborhood is not made up of heavy computer users, so broadband congestion could come. However, broadband architecture provides for easy segmentation of the network to reduce contingency as traffic grows.

My friends trying to get xDSL are having difficulty in getting the service and are disappointed in its performance and reliability, relatively speaking.

There is a holy war between the xDSL and the broadband crowds. A lot of FUD and half truths being thrown in both directions.
