from bce's Year Ender***
Reported net earnings for the year were $8.35 per common share ($5.4 billion) compared with $7.07 per common
share ($4.5 billion) for 1998. Reported earnings for 1999 and 1998 included gains net of one time charges of $3.4
billion for 1999 mostly related to the reduction of BCE's ownership in Bell Canada and of $2.9 billion in 1998 mainly
attributable to the dilution gain on the reduction of BCE's ownership in Nortel Networks.

BCE reported baseline of 3.01US.

$8.35 - 3.4 billion (one time gain)/ 640 million share outstanding = ~$3US

On Jan 26 PE= ~$100US/~$3US = ~33

It looks like First Call used ytd 3rd quarter baseline earnings of $2US, while Reuters used ytd 3rd quarter net earning of $5.56, to determine their respective published PE's.
